EVERYTHING KIKUSUI!

Kikusui Junmai Ginjo is a favorite at the shop and a sake that many of you are already familiar with.  Who can resist the clean crisp flavor of this Niigata sake that comes in the cool frosted blue bottle.

What many of you don’t know is that Kikusui makes another great sake called Sakamai Kikusui as well as some cool sake in cans.

Sakamai Kikusui is made from Kikusui rice, a variety that was all but extinct for the last 50 years until it was recently resurrected from the dead! (See story in the right column)

A representative from Kikusui Brewery will be on hand this Friday (12/17) to pour their delicious sake.  Join us at the shop from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm as we taste EVERYTHING KIKUSUI.

Here’s what we’ll be sampling.

Kikusui Junmai Ginjo
Light, smooth, crisp and clean, this “Niigata” style sake uses 100% gohyakumangoku rice.  The cool blue bottle is a bonus!

Sakamai Kikusui Junmai Daiginjo
Using rice thought to be all but extinct, this sake has an elegant and full bodied flavor.  The Kikusui rice used to brew this sake has been milled down to 40%,

Funaguchi Kikusui Ichiban Shibori
An unpastuerized sake or Namazake that was first released in 1972 triggering the start of the “Draft” sake boom.  Pressed using a fune, this nama has a fresh rich flavor with a clean finish.

Jukusei Funaguchi Kikusui Ichiban Shibori
This Funaguchi sake has been purposely cold aged for one year before being released for sale.  Compared in flavor to a rich Chinese Shaoshing Rice Wine, this smooth namazake is one of my favorites.

Kikusui Junmai
Full bodied yet mellow, this sake can be consumed both cold or warm.  Drink it cold for a crisp clean flavor.  Try it warm for a rich full bodied taste.

Kikusui Karakuchi (Honjozo)
Karakuchi means “dry” in Japanese which is exactly what this sake is.  This style of sake is what Niigata is known for, dry, crisp and clean.

Kikusui Yondan Shikomi (Honjozo)
This sake is brewed using the regular three stages of sake fermentation and adds an extra stage (Yondan) of koji rice.  It has a refreshing sweetness and smooth flavor.

So please stop by this Friday for our complimentary Kikusui tasting.  It’s always better to “try before you buy” and Kikusui makes a great Christmas present.

We are fast approaching the time of year where we all tend to get a little stressed. The annual end of year boiling cauldron of “I got to get this mess straightened out, done, started or paid off”.
We also tend to get ill this time of year and for years we have blamed it on the colds, flu and now thanks to some major “Red Herringness” the swine flu. Truth is most seasonal illnesses are caused from stress and fear. Both are known to lower your body’s resistance to common illnesses.
It is time for all us us to Step Into The Risk Of The Visionary. Simply put you have to be willing to identify with a successful outcome before you even have any idea of how to get there. The guts to know your are gonna make it and make it in a big way. Yeah I know you all read “The Secret” and other “Law of Attraction” book if not they will help you understand this not so secret way of getting things done.
If you see your self winning you will have the sudden ability to brainstorm all the things you need to make your endgame happen.
I personally use Mind Mapping and List. After you make yourself a goal.. let’s say get shopping done early and cheap… you will all of a sudden start thinking of gifts for people and of good cheap ones. Write this down ASAP spend about 15 mins just letting it flow. The Names, Stores, Gifts, Sizes, Color, Cards will all just pop into your head like LSD trips from the sixties. Me secret is just let it all flow with no specific order and then make the logical list after your done.
This example will work for any end of year task not just shopping.

Has $1 coffee every night after 8PM and what a bargain that is on these trying times. The best part is the free wifi so I can GTD without the interruptions of home. If you get hungry they make some pretty mean snacks and pastries too like these Bagel Danishes.
So if you are in the Kakaako area come on down to Fresh Cafe and enjoy. Eh, but don’t friggin’ bother me ’cause I’m busy.

I just love Audible.com and my AudioBooks. Listening to audiobooks is the best way to get your learn on while you are fripping stuck in traffic.  We American statistically read a meager  2 books a year not including articles from Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler.  This may be one of the reasons why we just don’t seem to know shit about shit important to the rest of the world unless it’s forced-fed crap about “SpHedi” on E! or CNN. Since we all travel on average over 1 hour per day what a great time to get in a good book and expand you mind rather than your waistline.

You can break your audiobook cherry my getting some audiobooks from your local library, yeah I said that. then follow this tutorial on how to get them into you ipod.
