### What Is Birchbox
Birchbox (http://dcrk.me/hsmbbm) and a subscription based services that deliver health and beauty products and well as some men’s finishings to it’s members via the mail. In the average box you’ll find samples of fragrances, shaving aids, grooming products, hygienic products and the occasional surprise like tie clips or pocket squares. Birchbox is a well dressed gentlemen’s dream.

Men’s products are normally a huge mystery and and buying these products can be a crap shoot. Birchbox looks to deliver a product discovery service that helps men find really good items they may not normally discover at their local department or men stores.

New Video! – Beef-Up Spam Filters in Mail

Today we’re going talk about filtering spam from Mail on Mountain Lion. Most people use Mail to read, manage, and process their emails. Needless to say everyday when you open your email, low and behold sitting in your Inbox waiting for you are the dreaded spam emails. If you have email, you have spam – that’s just the way it works. I will show you how to better manage your spam so you can simplify your life and decrease your email processing time.

Built-in Spam Filtering

Mail has built in spam filtering turned on by default. We’ll review how to be sure it’s on as well as fine tune it to get the most out of built in spam filtering. In the Junk Mail setting under the Preference menu, make sure that the box “Enable junk mail filtering” is selected. The same menu allows you to tweak your spam filters a bit by directing spam where to go when it arrives and adding some exemptions to the junk mail filtering.

In the Viewing setting under the Preference menu, be sure to turn off the feature “Display remote images in HTML messages.” Certain spammers send out messages with web bugs that notify the spammer that your email is an active email account once you click on the message. Your email then gets added to a list of known active emails which then generates more spam for you, not good. Turning off this feature prevents the spammer from recognizing your email as an active email account.

Creating Rules

In addition to the general spam filters, Mail allows you to create specific rules to fine tune your spam filtering process. One helpful method is to create a new mailbox especially designed for those email messages that fit the spam criteria. Once your new mailbox is created and properly labeled (i.e. “Spam-ish”) you can go to the Rules setting under the Preference menu. In the Rules setting you can create specific actions based on a predetermined set of criteria. For example, if all the Content-Type Contains “multipart/related” then Move Message into the designated folder which you just created. Now that you’ve set the Rules, any message that fit the criteria you’ve specified will automatically go into your designated spam folder.

Fine Tuning

All spam filters are not 100% fool proof so there will be those messages that are not spam that get labeled as spam and vice versa. Mail allows you to select a message and click on “Not Junk” or “Load Image” which will correct the labeling of the message. The more you work with and fine tune the settings, the application will become better at recognizing spam and will become trained to accept or reject messages from a particular sender. A good rule of thumb is to review your Junk mail folder periodically to make sure any messages don’t slip through the cracks.

Other Options

Another option would be to not use Mail because if the email doesn’t get to your computer, it can’t harm you. Using iCloud or Gmailor other webmail services can help add a buffer between spam and your computer.

Third Party Spam Utilities

There are also third party spam utilities that many people find useful and highly effective. SpamSieve from C-Command Software has done a really nice job with their spam filters. The cost is US$30.00 and they also offer a Free Trial.

SaneBox (http://dcrk.me/gosanebox) is another online application which helps to sort your email into proper boxes and reduces your email processing time and an added feature is that it runs through spam amazingly well. The Smart filtering feature of SaneBox reads your email messages, determines the level of importance, and moves unimportant messages out of the Inbox. The @SaneBlackHole will not only delete your spam messages but makes sure you never receive email from the sender again and also automatically unsubscribes you from the mailing list. You can also defer processing your email by placing your email in the “@SaneTomorrow” or “@SaneNextWeek” folder and it will automatically pop back into your Inbox when the time comes. The cost for SaneBox is US$5.00/month but if you refer other people you’ll receive extra credits.

Hopefully by using these techniques the only place you will see spam is in your musubi.

New Video! – Three Year Old Pianist – Emma’s First Piano Recital

http://mrdocrock.com –
My Niece has her first Piano recital at three years old. She has only been playing for about 8 weeks and we were initially told she is too young to start learning an instrument. Not taking no for an answer the teacher agreed to at least give her a shot and here are the results of the Emma Experiment. She is officially the youngest player at her music school and I’m so proud of her.

I have been looking to buy new glasses for a few months and stumbled across a Coastal.com (http://dcrk.me/freeseyes) promotion my sister posted. The Promo said “FIRSTPAIRFREE” and my initial reaction was that’s BS. So I put it off.

Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?

Long before there were internet “memes” or Super Bowl multi-million dollar advertisement showcases there were organically viral commercials that created “people spread” or “word of mouth memes.”

As I kid I remember walking through the hallways at school hearing things like “Where’s the Beef” “Kiss my Grits”  ”Eat My Shorts” or “Cowabunga!”

One of the more popular sayings of the day came from the EPIC Grey Poupon commercials.

Check out the Grey Poupon Lost Footage Video that’s sure to go viral once all the old schoolers see it.

Facebook Mobile calling

The Facebook App for iOS has caught more than it’s share of flack over the last few years; however, today the Facebook Mobile Dev team may have totally redeemed themselves. Bring on Facebook Calling for iPhone!

The newly updated Facebook App for iOS allows users to make call to other users over existing data plans and wi-fi. Now without install an extra application.

Upon testing the app I found you cannot call mobile to computer or computer to mobile just yet but still found the calling feature to be useful.

Hawaii Tsunami Warning Video Featured on Huffington Post

My Tsunami Warning video featured on Huffington Post. What an honor;

The other night I was enjoying so Sake at the Sake Shop Hawaii one of my favorite Nihonshu shopping stomps when I got a Tweetbot notification saying there was a seismic event neat Be that was going to cause a Tsunami to hit the coast of the Hawaiian Islands in a few hours. It seemed as if nobody else had heard the news and being unfortunately accustomed to these false alarms I don’t think many people cared.

Just to be certain I went outside and there were the sirens wailing the emergency warnings. Naturally I bought some sake and headed home to batten down the hatches. Much to my surprise the local police force was already shutting down the streets. I made it in the house and shot this video with my iPhone 5 and promptly posted it to my YouTube Channel

It was just a simple video describing how I was feeling about another slight necessary but overactive evacuation by our city officials. Mostly because as a DJ the big EPIC Halloween Party we had planned for our club was gonna be cancelled.

Surprisingly people were all over twitter so once i shared it I got a request to have my video featured on Huffington Post. What an honor; however, they do not give any link back love to my site. That’s kind of rude I think.

Any way just wanted to share this little anecdote with you.

David So visits Hawaii

Normally I don’t give two phux about the celebrity type because for the most part the are all entitled little shits.

This weekend i had the pleasure of hosting Kollaboration Honolulu with David So. I have been watching and busting a gut over David’s comedy on YouTube for a while now. I was pleased as punch to find out David was the most normal and chill dude I have ever worked with. I have worked with many celebrities over the years and most of them are a bit whack but David was cool.

Above is a short video we made after our show was over. I tried not to make an ass out of myself. Please if you have not seen his work go check it out and please support Kollaboration.

If you want to see and example of the inner working of a crazy persons mind. Check out David’s latest video “BYUNTAE STYLE!”
