Wigan Athletic Maynor Figueroa’s Fantastic Goal

The weekend saw some great goals in the Premiership but none as outrageous as the stunning long range finish executed to perfection by Wigan’s Maynor Figueroa.

The Honduras player spotted Thomas Sorensen off his line and without second thought glided the sweetest of shots over the Stoke City goalkeeper as the visitors seized the lead for the second time in the match.

Sorensen, though, had the final say in the match when he saved Hugo Rodallega’s weak penalty in the dying minutes of the game after a clumsy challenge by Robert Huth felled Jordi Gomez in the area.

It ended 2-2 and that was fitting given that the two teams relied on their usual tactics: Stoke were strong while Wigan demonstrated their usual defensive frailties, the same kind of frailties which saw them concede nine goals in their last away fixture v Tottenham Hotspurs.
