Fixing my Kanji Input for Wordpress 日本語英語なおします.

I was having problem with my wordpress, i could not write or see にほんご(Japanese) in my blog. All the Japanese characters show up as “????” instead of 日本語.

I was going mental trying to fix this looking at all the code. After googling and found some answers, actually it has to do with the sql database collation setting. To display Japanese properly, the recommended setting should be ‘utf8_general_ci’.

/** Database Charset to use in creating database tables. */

define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8_general_ci');

/** The Database Collate type. Don't change this if in doubt. */

define('DB_COLLATE', '');

Credit Card Payments On Your Mobile Phone Just Got Hotter!

Since I left Apple (Ex Genius) I have been doing a lot of Freelance work in my many fields of expertise. The hardest part of this style of business is not excepting credit cards. I have looked at several solutions like iSwipe from AppNinjas to many of the other 30+ possibilities in the iTunes App Store. Nothing really popped my socks except for iSwipe ( @ $1.99 it is actually the cheapest option) and that really wasn’t trippin’ the lights fantastic for me.

Then the was the reveal for the handy devices at the local Apple Retail Stores. This was getting a little bit closer. A few weeks ago I heard of the Mophie option coming soon Now I’m excited. this is looking promising.

Well today my homeboy Kevin Rose dropped a big bomb on the situation (see the video). Squareup.com now has the solution I will for sure get. This is not only sleek and elegant it was made for people like me. I have been a follower of Kevin and his adventures since “Follower” was an internet related word and Kevin was the new kid on TechTV’s call for help with Leo Laporte.

I think you have gotta see this baby in action, so Square please send me one asap, poppa needs to buy some new shoes.

PimpZen: Step Into The Risk Of The Visionary

We are fast approaching the time of year where we all tend to get a little stressed. The annual end of year boiling cauldron of “I got to get this mess straightened out, done, started or paid off”.
We also tend to get ill this time of year and for years we have blamed it on the colds, flu and now thanks to some major “Red Herringness” the swine flu. Truth is most seasonal illnesses are caused from stress and fear. Both are known to lower your body’s resistance to common illnesses.
It is time for all us us to Step Into The Risk Of The Visionary. Simply put you have to be willing to identify with a successful outcome before you even have any idea of how to get there. The guts to know your are gonna make it and make it in a big way. Yeah I know you all read “The Secret” and other “Law of Attraction” book if not they will help you understand this not so secret way of getting things done.
If you see your self winning you will have the sudden ability to brainstorm all the things you need to make your endgame happen.
I personally use Mind Mapping and List. After you make yourself a goal.. let’s say get shopping done early and cheap… you will all of a sudden start thinking of gifts for people and of good cheap ones. Write this down ASAP spend about 15 mins just letting it flow. The Names, Stores, Gifts, Sizes, Color, Cards will all just pop into your head like LSD trips from the sixties. Me secret is just let it all flow with no specific order and then make the logical list after your done.
This example will work for any end of year task not just shopping.
Leave me some comments, questions or feedback of how this works for you or if you have a better way.

See folder content previews in Quick Look in 10.5 and 10.6

I use QuickLook pretty much everyday while searching through folders.  I fin it most helpful when browsing documents, PDF’s and media files like photos or videos. Until now if you ran across a nested folder ( a folder inside of another folder) QuickLook will just show you a pretty little aqua blue folder. But adding this little hake-a-round I found on Mac OS X Hints and you’ll have a neat little semi-transparent folder to see your files in complete with a rotating animation of your files.

How Do You Do This You Say…Easy:

1. Force Quit/Relaunch Finder Using the Force Quite Menu  (or cmd + opt + esc)
2. Open Terminal Application (in your Utilities folder)
3. Enter or paste in the following command:

defaults write com.apple.Finder QLEnableXRayFolders 1

4. Relaunch Finder

[UPDATE: I was able to do this in 10.6.1 by just pasting the command into terminal without quitting the Finder.]

These are my before and afters.

Get A Effin’ Grip On Your Wasted Time ASAP

Let’s face it we are all guilty of wasting a huge amount of time. My problem is the people who constantly complain about howthey have no time and are very doom and gloom about it and all the related issues that are causing them stress. I call these people “Psychological Vampires”. You know them, Hell! you may be one of them.

The number one reason for illness, divorce and suicide is stress. Most studies agree that finances are a leading cause of stress. In an online poll conducted in 2005 by LifeCare, Inc., 23 percent of respondents named finances as the leading cause of stress in their lives. Financial stress has led the list in many modern polls.

Some who name finances as the leading cause of stress cite major purchases they have to make, such as a home or car. Others are stressed by a loss of income, or mounting credit card debt. For some, financial stress will eventuate in bankruptcy. While college students stress over paying for an education, Baby Boomers and older senior citizens find that retirement income can be a major cause of stress. This madness has to stop now.

If money is the true root of all evil it is because we don’t seem to have enough of it. There are a billion and one books on how to get more money; however, most of them miss out on the easiest way possible stop wasting time. I find most people don’t respect how much personal time is worth. They don’t respect their own time value so in turn they don’t respect yours or mine either.

So how much is your time worth? Here is the magic formula:
1. Write down how much money you want to make next year.
2. Divide that number by 2,080, the number of typical work hours in a year
3. This is your hourly value.
4. Divide that number by 6, to get the value of each ten minute segment of your work day.
5. Own that value, Never disrespect it or anyone else’s version of it.
ie:
Let’s say you want to make a cool Hundy, $100,000 divided by 2,080 equals $48.07 per hour divided by 6 equals $8.01. For every ten minutes you spend on anything your are spending, wasting or earning $8.01. Remember that while you are gossiping, starting trouble, smoking or just phasing out when you should be working. You can’t get away from the time so we end up making it up on the weekends, during family time or not going on vacation. Now that is exactly how we get stressed.

Next time I cover this I’ll go over some good time savings tips and how to stay focused.

Hawaii Calls: Sending Some Aloha to Wetoku.com CoFounder David Lee

Today I had a chance to speak with David Lee of Wetoku.com (play on the words We Talk) about his great new service that allows bloggers to record interviews and post them to their blogs.

According to David Wetoku for Bloggers can be used to produce recordings of interviews that can easily be embedded into many blogging platforms. Bloggers can use their webcams to meet with someone interesting over the web, with no software to install. The recording is immediately available, with embed code that can be pasted directly into a new blog entry.

The most intriguing feature for me is the speed and ease of the whole process. Record, copy the embed code and post and share. Since I post with Posterous it is wicked fast to get the interviews plastered all over all of my social properties.

Show some #Aloha by following @Wetoku on Twitter! http://twitter.com/wetoku and thanks to David you can sign up for the beta by being one of the first 100 bloggers to go to Wetoku.com and sign up for an account and enter DOCROCK as the Invite Code.

Much Mahalo to David and the staff at Wetoku.com and I look forward to rocking this little jem of a WebApp for many interviews to come. I wonder if I can get Megan Fox to do an Wetoku Interview.

Hurry stop reading this and go sing up and start interviewing.

#Aloha
